Within the smooth sweep
of an upturned conch
the static of an empty ocean murmurs,
masking the faint, muffled screams
of the Creator.

His voice radiates dizzily
through ragged incisions
in the ebon belly of the sky,
issuing
from the inferno hearts of unnumbered
crystal sarcophagi,

which burn and glare
at our curious ears
and do not pity.
