Lightning blisters
in purple rage
above the shoreline.
Wind grips the grass
of salt marsh, in snarls,
like a legion Medusa.

cushions the color
of apricot,
a low candle, and a vase
filled with names.
What we are calling,
remains unknown
until the first pale light
