She was always used to getting what she wanted, so when she met his wife she didn’t understand. Following her every move, she became his wife’s closest friend. She studied her styles and mannerisms, likes and dislikes, shifted and changed like a chameleon until she no longer recognized herself. And as she stood over the woman’s lifeless body, she couldn’t help but feel accomplished. Her smile grew as the front door opened. “Honey, I’m home,” he said. In a voice not quite her own, she replied, “Be right there.” |
