  Cover Issue 12 ANUBIS

You wear your ribbon like a concubine.

Black jackal of the Nile, you embalm

your priests in the same minerals as the nameless

(exception: Nefertiti, whom you hooked screaming

like a red poppy through the soul and out the iron

walls of Duat). Soon you'll rip magnificent

your own heart – the ostrich feather

like a giant millipede. Soon you'll extend

your organs above the sun and swallow

the self-reflexive scream.
