Bonaventure While he was washing the dishes no less, two hooded madmen tore into the kitchen and grabbed him with a violence that caused suds, water, dishes, utensils and cups to clatter to the bricks. They walked him outside and put him down on the chopping block. His red cap landed on a little sapling. “What is the meaning of this?” Soon, other brothers gathered. The madmen brandished their axes, and made menacing strides towards them. “You helped to get my sister tortured and burned, you nasty monk!” “I was doing the work of God. It had. . .’ In mid-sentence, his head was lopped off and it landed with a thud, where the blood and dirt combined to make monk mud. The blood poured from his neck onto the little sapling, which became known forever more as the “Tree of Life”. Someone else finished the dishes. |
