came in thru Dulles

disguised as a man I thought

I knew. Of course it was

her, there was a bead on her

finger, a sheen as if what once

glowed had darkened. She

left me e mail, a voice

mail, texts. If I had

spoken to her maybe I'd

have known. If it was

a video I wouldn't have been

lured to the motel

on a broken down street

in a misty rain of ice crystals

where, because I was so

cold, of course I let

what I thought was a man,

an old friend wrap his

hands around mine,

around me. Herb

tea was one thing but to

follow what I thought was

an editor to this room and gulp

the wine because I was still

freezing, pull the quilts

around me like a

shawl was not quite insane

I caught a glimpse of

black wings in the mirror.

The angel thought I couldn't see

evil and danger dripping

like ashes. Leaving

my manuscript behind, hardly

caring if I skidded thru

ice I escaped room 227,

heard men whisper one kiss from

her and I'd be dead, dying

and I ran faster than I ever could,

collapsed on the Orange line
