Cover Issue 17 A ROOM UNDER WATER

by NIKKI HARLIN

I couldn't hear before I saw cracks

in the ceiling, buckets and buckets

filled. This room remembers the rupture,

the calm pipe before it bursts

through amnesia's blank walls.

I arrived at this memory

through a faucet left to run.

A face in the mirror is conjured

by spells of breath. I leave my hands

to satiate in disturbed waters and tilt

my head into the rift
