Cover Issue 15 AFTER A NIGHT OF NO SLEEP

wanting my body to want
to do what it should,

to not want to do what
it shouldn't. After

twisting from 2 AM
till dawn, getting up to

do e mail, trying
to remember choreography

while my head is banging,
to remember this is not

the fall of 1997 waiting for
his surgery, each test

a grenade, each clinic
flight feeling like a plane

about to crash
After not sleeping
even with the cat

curling in a warm
comma around me

Sky goes from black to gray
Mist in hours rises over

the pond . Another blue
cloud stretched over this

blue fall. Fists of grenades
about to explode
