Submit to HelloHorror
HelloHorror
accepts works of fiction, non-fiction, micro-fiction, poetry, photography, visual art and film. All entries must be in English.
Translations are acceptable and should be accompanied by a copy of the original text. While we entertain most works associated
with the genre, please keep in mind that our goal is to offer something new within the genre with a focus on the psychological
aspects of horror.
If you are interested in submitting your work, we strongly encourage you to first familiarize yourself with our journal by reading a few of our issues.
For all submissions, please include a reasonably short third-person bio. We encourage the inclusion of social media and
blog links within your bio. See examples of these on our
Contributors page.
GENRES
Fiction | Short Stories, Micros, Flash Fiction:
As these are our optimal literary types, we don’t want to be too constricting. The length of your story will
not be a factor when considering your work. Quality comes before quantity. If an accepted work is unusually long,
it will most likely be serialized, so please be open to this possibility before submitting anything over ten pages in
length. Any accepted work less than 1000 words will be published as a ‘micro’. If you consider your work to be flash
fiction, please keep in mind that HelloHorror bills all works under 1000 words as micros.
Non-Fiction:
Please feel free to submit the abstract of your expository work or the piece in its entirety.
Poetry:
We are open to all styles of poetry, however please consider the length guidelines that we have suggested for
short stories when submitting longer pieces. In regards to formatting, pieces accepted for publication will be published exactly as submitted.
Photography | Visual Arts:
Please submit no less than five images as samples of your work with an artist statement.
As stated above, we will entertain most works associated with the genre, but please keep in mind that our goal is to offer
something new within the genre with a focus on the psychological aspects of horror.
For all submissions, please include a reasonably short third-person bio. We encourage the inclusion of social media and
blog links within your bio. See examples of these on our
Contributors page.
FICTION AND NON-FICTION STYLE GUIDE
Important:
We request paragraph formatting be in accordance with the HelloHorror Style Guide: Double space after periods; justified margins,
12 pt font, Arial; single spacing, no indentation, two spaces between paragraphs.
We prefer literary work submitted as MS Word documents. If you do not have access to MS Word, we suggest using Open Office or
Google Docs as both programs sufficiently provide formatting features like those found in MS Word. If submitting your work as a Word,
Open Office or Google Docs document is not possible, please submit your piece in the body of the email.
Special formatting is discouraged. If special formatting is essential to your work, we will do our best to keep such formatting intact.
To this end, please clearly explain the special formatting within brackets.
For all submissions, please include a reasonably short third-person bio. We encourage the inclusion of social media and
blog links within your bio. See examples of these on our
Contributors page.

Simultaneous submissions allowed, but please notify the editors immediately if chosen for publication elsewhere.

you are a writer who is under 18, we are happy to read your work but require consent by either a parent or guardian.
Previously published material is not allowed unless it is used as an excerpt to promote a novel or in the case of visual art.

HelloHorror the right to indefinitely promote the author’s work online and in print, including by excerpting the work online and
in print for promotional purposes.
By act of submission, submitters verify that the work they submit is their own and does not infringe on the copyrights of any other author,
story or work, published, or unpublished.
